Wrapping, Adorning

For the past decade, I have sought to walk alongside people’s lives through clothing. Continuing my practice of hand-colored silk, I now offer a collection of quiet, expressive forms. On display will be small fukusa cloths and floor coverings for seasonal displays, delicate papers to enrich the tea ceremony, and custom-crafted envelopes for special occasions. I look forward to sharing these creations with you.

山本さんの新作は「雷（いかづち）」。
今夏訪れた伊勢神宮では、清らかな五十鈴川の流れや、内宮の神々しさに感動したといいます。
しめ縄に付け、結界を示す紙垂を雷に見立て、錫粉で表現されました。
余技で制作された軸先も合わせてお楽しみください。

Takahiro Yamamoto Exhibition

The highlight of Yamamoto’s latest work is Ikazuchi (Thunder). During a visit to Ise Shrine this summer, he was deeply moved by the sacred atmosphere and the clear waters of the Isuzu River. Inspired by the zigzag paper streamers on the shrine’s sacred rope—symbols of a purified realm—he reimagined them as thunder, expressed through the use of tin powder. Additional works, including finials crafted as a side project, will also be on display.

白い器には、昔からどうしようもない憧れがある。
白という特別な色は全てを受け入れてくれる包容力があるように見えて
逆に何ものをも寄せ付けない圧倒的な品格を持っていたりもする。
そんな白に少し色を足すことでなんとか白と向き合い、
ぽつりぽつりと作ってきたけれど
無数の色を持つ白のなかの自分にとっての白という色、
そして白のかたちはまだ全然わからない。
いつかは自分の真白を作ってみたいと願いながら
他の色の力を借りて白に近づくだけでいまはまだ精一杯だ。

White vessels have always held an indescribable allure. The color white, so unique and all-encompassing, seems capable of embracing everything, yet it also commands an overwhelming dignity that maintains a certain distance. In my work, by introducing subtle hints of color into white, I find a way to confront and engage with it, gradually shaping each piece. This journey into the myriad shades concealed within white, in search of my personal interpretation of its color and form, is an ongoing exploration. While I harbor the dream of one day creating my ultimate expression of pure white, at this moment, I am guided by the vibrancy of other colors to draw closer to its essence.
